Wismar Seaport pushes its digitalization by building a LoRaWAN network
The introduction of the radio technology LoRaWAN (long range wide area network) is another milestone for Wismar Seaport on its road towards digitalization. The new technology is planned and implemented under the subsidy programme Innovative Port Technologies (IHATEC).
LoRaWAN is a wireless transmission technology that is characterized by a high range, low energy consumption and low cost. Another advantage is its high penetration of buildings which provides coverage even in remote parts of a building.
In a first step, Wismar Seaport uses the LoRaWAN technology to collect environmental data as well as information on maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment.
