Wismar Seaport strengthens its position in the handling of heavy and project cargoes

05/16/2014 –

The seaport of Wismar demonstrated its skills again. In order the port location should continue to gain importance in this segment.

In the port of Wismar more often heavy goods go over the quay walls. Early April, two Siemens transformers were handled with individual weights of 100 t. These could be loaded directly from the truck into the ship to Hammerfest. With assistance of the heavy-duty crane the heaviest cargo until now was transshipped. In doing so this precision and experienced dealing with the appropriate handling equipment were in demand.

Also the longest cargo has left the seaport: rotor blades with a total length of 58.7 m were transported by truck over the barrier-free access to the site.

The smooth running of the projects tunes all participants of the logistics chain satisfied. For the future, the seaport is setting up with the second stage of construction of the port expansion to continue to meet the needs of the market and customer demands. Completion of this investment is expected to be 2017.
