Annual balance 2014

01/06/2015 –

Seehafen Wismar GmbH ends the year 2014 with a satisfactory result. Although the tonnage of the previous year was not quite achieved the annual target was still reached with around 3.5 million tons of seaborne goods handled. As per 31/12/2014 the estimated total handling by all means of transport will be 7.5 million tons.

The slight decline compared to last year is mainly due to the return of the cement handling to Rostock. During the refurbishment of the railway line between Berlin and Rostock this traffic had been temporarily handled in Wismar. In the market segment of cruise shipping, which is relatively new at the port location of Wismar, a total of 12 cruise liners with around 14,000 passengers and 6,500 crew were welcomed here. This trend will continue judging by the reservations already at hand for 2015 and 2016.

Seehafen Wismar GmbH enters the year 2015 in a mood of optimism. The company expects a stable trend in business if the economic framework continues in a similar manner as heretofore although the further development in Russia and the as yet unforeseeable effects of SECA may result in new challenges. With the construction of a multi-functional operating area of 45,000 sq. m and a new quay facility the port continues to be geared for expansion.
